On 22nd April it was Earth Day, a worldwide environmental campaign encouraging people to take action against climate change and campaign for a sustainable future.

As you may be aware, Wokingham Borough Council declared a climate emergency in July 2019, and Bracknell Forest Council in September 2023. Since then, both councils and their partners have been busily making changes so to build a more environmentally sustainable future, with an expressed commitment to reducing their boroughs carbon footprint to neutrality by 2030. At Involve Community Services, we have joined the growing ambition to create a more sustainable, carbon neutral future by making small changes to the way the charity, our sites, and our staff, facilitate daily undertakings.

We have set up a designated Green Team and continue to research, organise and improve our working practises and policies as best we can in order to become a more environmentally conscious charity. Plus, we recently had a team meeting inviting Climate Action Team representatives from both Bracknell Forest and Wokingham Borough Councils. We discussed both of the council’s environmental strategies and then worked together to discuss actions that Involve could take to become greener. It was a very successful session which focuses on a topic which we want to encourage other like-minded charitable organisations to get involved with and focus on

And now, to celebrate Earth Day, we have collated these actions, as well as various other eco-friendly information and resources, into two newsletter for the voluntary and community sector in Wokingham Borough and Bracknell Forest, which specifically focus on ways that you can also work on your organisation’s green actions and environmental impact. These newsletters features some of the small things you and your charity or group can do to make for a better future.

You can also find a list of more actions you can take on a past news article: involve.community/news/eco-plans

I hope you find these resources useful and will consider joining us to take action towards climate justice within your organisation and beyond. Let’s remember that each small act can make a big difference. 🌍
