The national Covid-19 Day of Reflection took place on Sunday 9th March. To mark this day, the council commissioned a memorial bench, which is now located in Lily Hill Park for all residents to enjoy.
Last week, representatives from various local charitable sector organisations, including from Involve, the Ark Trust, and Ascot Shed, as well as members of the Bracknell Forest Council, gathered to take a moment of reflection and enjoy the peaceful location of the new bench.
Cllr Mary Temperton, leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said:
“Today is an opportunity for us all to remember those whose lives were impacted by the pandemic. In Bracknell Forest, and across the world, people’s daily lives were affected in many ways, and for many the impact has been long lasting.
“I also want to thank those that worked tirelessly, and who made sacrifices, to support our local community during that time. I thank our frontline workers, as well as all the volunteers that came together during that difficult time. This is a day to reflect on those acts of kindness, to give thanks to those dedicated members of our community, and to remember loved ones lost.”
Bracknell Forest rangers hand selected the pieces of wood, sourced from our local forests, to be used for the bench. It was then crafted by volunteers from Ascot Shed. The bench is for residents of Bracknell Forest who need a place to sit, reflect and enjoy a moment of peace in beautiful surroundings.
