The Theory of Change: Its Use In Grant Proposals & Projects

A theory of change shows what you want to achieve and how you plan to achieve it; and sets out the causal links between your activities and your end goal.

The course is for fundraisers who want to develop their knowledge and confidence in the practical application and use of the theory of change for planning projects and proposals and, or prioritising outcomes and impacts to form a monitoring and evaluation plan. (M&E plans and measurement will form a separate session).

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will –

  • Understand what the theory of change is and when it is helpful to use it
  • Be able to identify the key elements and develop a situational analysis
  • Have plotted causal chains showing links from activities to goals
  • Have identified outcomes and their impacts at individual and community levels
