Twitter Volunteering Advent 2017
For the first 24 days of December 2017, we created our own advent calendar to count down to Christmas by showcasing local volunteering opportunities for various charities. Here’s a summary of the organisations showcased, what opportunities they have available and how you can apply, so that you’ll have a role ready for 2018.
Day 1: The Pilgrim Hearts Night Shelter opens its doors tomorrow, providing people with a secure, safe & welcoming warm shelter, a sleeping bag & food each night & morning. Get in touch here if you’re interested in helping: https://buff.ly/2ArpyQI
Day 2: ABC to Read helps children across Berkshire to learn to read. They’re always in need of helpful reading mentor volunteers. Learn more about volunteering for ABC to Read and how to apply on their website: https://buff.ly/2AuxKQq
Day 3: Easthampstead Baptist Church’s Refresh Cafe is in need of helpers on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at any time between 11am-2pm at Crownwood Community Centre. Send a message if you’d be interested in helping out: https://buff.ly/2AwK6rb
Day 4: Keep Mobile are in need of many volunteers at the moment. Can you drive a minibus? Have experience in Admin, Fundraising or Volunteer Management? Keep Mobile needs help from people just like you: https://buff.ly/2Axrc3C
Day 5: Do you have some understanding of dyslexia, good listening skills & a basic understanding of email & use of the web? The British Dyslexia Association are looking for people to join their Helpline Volunteers. Send any relevant experience to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Day 6: One Sunday afternoon a month, throughout the country, Contact the Elderly groups meet for tea & companionship. Could help coordinate or host these meetings locally? Visit: https://buff.ly/2B4LvpO to view the roles they need filling.
Day 7: Do you enjoy driving? Do you also like helping others? Why not become a volunteer driver? Their are many elderly people who can’t get out & about easily. Get in touch with a local Good Neighbours scheme to apply to volunteer: https://buff.ly/2nxGdwT
Day 9: Do you want to be able to make the difference to someone in your area? Becoming a befriender simply involves becoming the friend of an isolated elderly person & it benefits you both. Learn more & apply here: https://buff.ly/2AmSp9J
Day 10: Ascot Area Alzheimer’s club for elderly people suffering from dementia normally occurs once a month, but is currently on hiatus, as they are in need of a new volunteer to cook for them. Can you help? https://buff.ly/2Bmj2Ma
Day 11: Bracknell Parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at Great Hollands Recreation Grounds. It’s run entirely by volunteers, and they need people like to you to come along and help out! Get in touch with email@example.com to express interest.
Day 12: Bracknell Forest Parks & Countryside had having a heath land conservation event at Wildmoor Heath on Saturday 16th Dec, which we advertised for those interested in helping improve the local wildlife.
Day 13: Good with children? Like cycling or helping the community? Volunteers are needed for Kids Cycling Race with Swallowfield Velo Club in a months time (Saturday 13th January 2018). Visit https://buff.ly/2B9laWz to find out more & to apply.
Day 14: The Berkshire Conservation Volunteers cleared shrubs on Sunday 17th December at Horseshoe Lake in Sandhurst. Find out more about the other work they’ve got going in the future on here: https://buff.ly/2C5190M
Day 15: AgeUK Berkshire offers a Home From Hospital service free of charge to older people who are resident in the Wokingham Borough Council area. Could you spare a few hours a week to help visit people in their homes? https://buff.ly/2o8KaIR
Day 16: If you live in Bracknell Forest or West Berkshire area, Action for Children could have a chance for you to really make a difference to the lives of children and young people. Apply to become an Advocate: https://buff.ly/2CxQtIR
Day 17: Younger People with Dementia‘s Dementia Friends program aims to change people’s perceptions of dementia. There are also many other ways to help YPWD through volunteering: https://buff.ly/2ChDDxM
Day 18: Crowthorne Stroke & Disabled Club are looking for a Volunteer Treasurer. If you have an accounting background & can attend occasional meetings on a Thursday morning (ten times a year), you could be a great candidate: https://buff.ly/2oiDyHK
Day 19: Our Community Navigators Scheme recruits volunteers & assigns them to surgeries across Wokingham Borough. They then help clients by signposting them to activities & services. Could become one of our Community Navigator Volunteers? https://buff.ly/2CEuC1B
